Germany and Israel have agreed to further strengthen their close cooperation in the field of security through a new security and cybersecurity pact. The agreement was signed in Israel by German Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and builds on the already extensive collaboration between the two countries, particularly in cybersecurity.
The pact provides a framework for enhanced cooperation in several areas, including cyber defense, artificial intelligence, protection of critical infrastructure such as energy systems, drone detection and defense, civil protection, and law enforcement and counter-terrorism. It also foresees increased exchange and networking on cyber dome defense and the establishment of a joint AI and cyber innovation center.
As part of the agreement, Germany plans to develop a “cyber dome” to strengthen its cyber resilience. This partially automated system is intended to detect, analyze and respond to cyber attacks, drawing on Israel’s experience and expertise in this field. During his visit, Minister Dobrindt attended a virtual demonstration showcasing Israel’s technological capabilities.
In addition, Germany is contributing to regional security efforts by seconding a Federal Police expert team to the U.S.-led Office of the Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The team will support civilian security authorities in rebuilding police and security forces, alongside Germany’s ongoing participation in European Union police missions. Minister Dobrindt also held talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar during his visit.
