Astera Labs, a U.S.-based semiconductor company, has opened a new research and development hub in Israel to develop advanced connectivity technologies for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company has established offices in both Tel Aviv and Haifa and plans to hire hundreds of engineers and developers by the end of 2027 to work on high-performance solutions that address the evolving challenges of AI systems.
The new Israeli R&D center will focus on the full chip design process, including architecture, production, software, and system design for cutting-edge AI connectivity “fabrics” and inference applications. Astera Labs aims to tap into Israel’s world-class engineering talent and collaborate with local universities and the broader tech ecosystem to solve critical data, network, and memory bottlenecks needed to support next-generation AI infrastructure globally.
Industry veteran Guy Azrad, a former Google executive, will lead the company’s Israeli operations as Senior Vice President of Engineering and General Manager, underscoring the strategic importance of the new hubs in Astera Labs’ global engineering footprint.
Astera Labs, which was founded by engineers from Texas Instruments and develops connectivity solutions that ensure efficient data movement within AI and cloud infrastructures, said the expansion reflects confidence in Israel’s semiconductor ecosystem and its deep pool of technical expertise.
