Cooperation & Innovation Scouting - NRW and Thuringia

AHK Israel has a broad network across the startup ecosystem, including startups, business angels, VCs and multipliers. Therefore, the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia have decided to cooperate with the AHK Israel. On behalf of NRW Invest, NRW International and LEG Thüringen, we are looking for local representatives for complementary innovation and cooperation in these federal states.

On behalf of the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, we are constantly looking for innovations from Israel to forge bilateral cooperation. NRW is one of the most important built-up areas in the heart of Europe, densely populated and with 28 major cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The most famous cities are the state capital Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund and Essen. Large German companies have their headquarters there. 18 of the 50 largest German companies - for example Aldi, Bayer, Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom, E.ON, Metro, Rewe, RWE and ThyssenKrupp are located in NRW. Many foreign companies have also settled in NRW, including Ericsson, Ford, LG Electronics, QVC, Sony, Toyota and Vodafone.

NRW INVEST

NRW Invest is a state-owned business development company whose goal is the international marketing of the country. The focus is on the recruitment of foreign direct investment. In addition to Israel, NRW Invest is also represented in China, India, Korea, Poland, Russia and Turkey. Subsidiaries exist in the US and in Japan.

The headquarters of NRW Invest is Dusseldorf. Together with the foreign offices, foreign companies are supported in investment projects or in a possible settlement in NRW.

NRW International

AHK Israel also cooperates with NRW International GmbH. Attention is paid to supporting small and medium-sized companies in international market development. There are three representatives of the company: The Chambers of Commerce and Industry of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Chambers of Crafts and the NRW Bank. This support structure enables us to offer companies individualized support regarding the market development.

In cooperation with NRW International, we support companies from North Rhine-Westphalia with initial consultations, technology scouting, the organization of workshops, delegations and trade visits.

LEG Thüringen

In addition to North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia is the second federal state that uses the AHK Israel as a technology scout. With a population of around 2.2 million, Thuringia is rather a smaller federal state, where mainly small to medium-sized enterprises are located. Many companies are specialized in the fields of optics and medicine. The fourth largest university of the new federal states is in Jena, which is regarded as a highly esteemed partner for research cooperations.

We work on behalf of the LEG Thuringia (state development company), whose goal is the expansion and strengthening of the technology and business location Thuringia. We are observing the Israeli innovation market with emphasis on optics and medical technology and supporting Thuringian companies in establishing cooperation with Israeli partners.

Business Metropolis Ruhr

Due to the dense network of AHK Israel in the Israeli startup ecosystem, especially to startups, venture capital funds, business angels, multipliers and many decision-makers, the Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH (BMR) has decided to enter into a cooperation agreement with the AHK.

The Ruhr region presents itself with the BMR – nationally and internationally – as a powerful and innovative region. Among other things, the economic interests and settlement interests of the 53 cities and communities (including Bochum, Duisburg, Dortmund and Essen) of this region are bundled. Furthermore, an increase of the competitiveness of the business location metropolitan region Ruhr should be guaranteed.

On behalf of the BMR, AHK Israel operates a successful technology scouting for large and medium-sized companies from the Ruhr area. We are looking for new technologies and innovations that can help companies on their way to digitization. For this purpose, targeted Israeli startups and companies are monitored and contacted according to their relevance. The technology scouting of the AHK focuses on the areas of logistics, robotics, cyber security, smart data, energy, artificial intelligence and health economics.
